Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I absolutely love the pictures that are posted on here showing the old cinemas, the Arena, the Stadium and other venues slightly further afield but I can't help feeling more than a little sad that so many of the places where the young and not so young might go to have a night out are gone.
What are they replaced with? A nasty supermarket, fast food joints, chain stores and a gym, or ugly flats or numerous betting shops (oh so family friendly) and so on. Okay, so there were probably disadvantages to living near a stadium with speedway (I remember as I lived near one in Ipswich, home of the Witches) but it was also a night out and lots of fun for kids.
The past was not paradise, I know, but it seems that in many ways we have lost so much round here. Neglect? Times change? Our own fault for not caring when it mattered? Don't know, but little by little it seems to me, some wonderful things have been lost from this area and are gone for good. Doesn't that make you just a little sad too?

Someone mentioned this to me yesterday as a current option. I guess some of it must still be there. Looks fantastic back then.

Clissold animal enclosure is still a good attraction. Great for inner city kids.
Have you seen this Stephen? It includes plans for the return of the Model traffic area
Well that sounds good... Obviously, kids today aren't the same as kids in the early 1960s, but I do hope that in the future, they will be able to experience real enjoyment at playing "grown-up" on warm summer holiday days, just like we did back then and that the memories of it will stay with them, like they did with my generation.
Matt, the salisbury isnt online
That's why it's my favourite place!
