Great find Hugh. Where did you find the piano? I'll have to ask about Arthur Bishop next time I'm passing Reid Pianos.
It's on ebay right now if you're interested.
We certainly have a musical heritage round here. How lovely! Hope we can find out more about them. The piano was centre piece of many middle class Edwardian homes.
and is still the centre piece of many middle class 21st century homes! It's just a shame they aren't being built in Harringay anymore. Restored yes, at the superb Reid Pianos, but not built. The history of English pianos, which was centred on Harringay, is a fascinating story. When I've got more time I might write about it, if Hugh doesn't beat me to it that is!
It certainly needs writing about. Would make a good story and plenty of interest.
I feel I should resume my piano lessons asap! Thats a lovely piano Hugh has put pics of up here.
I was thinking just yesterday, Hugo, that I have a set of notes as yet not written into anything usable. I did some research. It was one helluva tangle as one company took over another in an effort to survive changing demands and foreign competition.
But I did make sure a piano made it on to the Harringay Bridge banner. In this case, it's Challen's monster Silver Jubilee piano.
