I met up with a few people earlier tonight to talk about the Fairlands summer event (which will be on July 15th in Fairlands Park). We were talking about the fact that there is a flagpole and how great it would be to have a flag we could put on it .. and before you know it (and a few drinks later) we'd come up with the idea of having a competition to design a Harringay flag, the winner of which would be made up and launched at the Fairlands event.
So over to you ... come up with a design, draw a clear mock up, take a photo and post it on this thread by June 24th. I'll work out some way of voting, and we can have a week of voting to identify the most popular design. Then I will dust off my sewing machine and work out how to make the thing up... With that in mind, my only plea is to keep the design fairly simple.
Any thoughts? Would people be keen? Crazy idea? Any way to get local schools involved?

I like this a lot! Very clever.
Good adaptation, John. That's a section of HoL's logo isn't it? When Birdy designed it for us, it was supposed to be both an H and to represent the grid pattern of our streets.
Hi Alison,
What a fantastic idea. I work at North Harringay Primary school - I think this would be a great competition for our children as we are right next door. Perhaps with a short, clear brief eg size, shape, number of colours, theme ... (eg A4, landscape, 5 colours, local community). The teachers could ask all the children to make a design, then choose the best 3 in each class so you'd have a manageable number to work with.
Let me know what you think - kim@nhp.haringey.sch.uk
Thanks, kim
Hi Kim
I think that would be great. I'd say your summary is pretty spot on, so:
I will see if anyone at South Harringay is interested...
Kim, I'll drop you an email too so you've got my details.
Please - everyone else - it would be great to get non-children entering too! The more the merrier...
This sounds to me very much like a community art project which is helping the community to celebrate the Olympics............oooh, funny that there's a fund for that from the Council - grants of up to £2,000.
