I recently noticed that one of the victims of "The Titanic" was called Ernest T. Barker and gave his address as 4, Grand Parade, Green Lanes, Harringay. This is where Mark's chemist is now. I think he used the address as his sister Constance Pirie lived there. She was previously married to William Ellis at the same address. He was a chemist so it has been a chemist shop since at least 1901.
The Barker family originally lived at "The Golden Lion" pub, 57, Charlotte St., Islington. Their father Thomas was a publican. In 1891 Ernest appears as a visitor at "The African Head" pub, 69 Ossulston St., St Pancras.
He signed on to "The Titanic" on 6th of April 1912 as a Saloon Steward/Victualling Crew. He had previously served on "The Olympic." His body was recovered and he was buried at sea on the 24th of April 1912. He was found wearing a blue jacket and vest; dark pants; Pajamas under. Effects : Pipe, knife and pouch. He had three letters on him. One was to Miss Con Barker, 4, Grand Parade. He is noted on his family's memorial in The East Cemetery at Highgate.
There are some discrepancies in the records I checked. I think he took a couple of years off his age when joining "The Titanic." This was not unusual though. His middle initial was "W" instead of "T" in the 1881 census. From the writing it appears that one person went around writing up the census in the area so they may have made a mistake. I got my information from census results, encyclopedia-titanica and Nova Scotia archives-titanic.
