Another Polish food shop is opening up this weekend on GL, in one half of the old Trehantiri Greek record shop opposite the Arena. I think that makes at least four now between here and Turnpike Lane.
It's interesting how commerce changes over time in this neighbourhood - when I moved here in the late 80s most of the shops were Greek (and Turkish) Cypriot-owned, then they rapidly became Turkish/Kurdish and I wouldn't mind betting that in another few years they are mostly Eastern European. I don't know how far this reflects the demographics of the area, which have always been and remain an incredible mix of nationalites, but it must be a barometer of the changing populations of London.

....and there's another polish shop opening in the other half, but I can't for the life of me remember what type of shop the guys said it would be.
oooh good...another hairdressers.
shame i have no hair.
Whereabouts on Green Lanes exactly....? MUST HAVE CHEESECAKE!!!!
between the bridge and Lothair Road North
When I used to go to the annual open day at RAF Upper Heyford the food stalls to head for was the run by Polish Squadrons (these would be later generation Polish flyers and ground crew). The sausages were nothing like anything we could buy, quite garlicy and seemed to ooze sweetness.
Just brought some very good pickled herring, cheese cake and apple pie from there. Nice friendly staff too. Good luck to them.
They have real Polish cheesecake? *goes for a walk down Green Lanes*
Chocolate base, cheese centre and a kind of soft, crumbly bready, biscuity pastry on the top. Mmmmmm
I too have now sampled said cheesecake. I had to fight my husband for the last portion! It is heavenly. Not only that but as you buy it by the weight, you can get as little or as much as you like. At £5.99 per kilo it is also excellent value for something so scrummy. I also sampled a "fruit plait" loaf at 99p, a bit like pannetoni but denser, also very good.
