Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Does anyone know why there are so many police around Green Lanes and the passage this afternoon?

The Virgin air ambulance helicopter was also parked on the playing field area of Finsbury Park, the bit between Green Lanes and Endymion Road.

That might be for the person being carried by paramedics out of a flat opposite Paul Simon. The pavement was taped off on either side.

Pictures and more info on what the air ambulance was doing on our Facebook Page.

Yup but that's nothing to do with the tread. We're talking about increased police patrols, not emergency callouts.

I saw three on Wightman Rd near Fairland park at 12 and then another two strolling north on Green Lanes past Devran at ten past four. Do think that constitutes gang activity? I didn't recognise any of them.

Spike in burglaries is the reason.

Lock everything down folks, even your gates ... or anything else metal for that matter. If need be upgrade your window locks and door locks. Get advice on locks from a local locksmith or local police. If you don't have an alarm system, get one (try Securebase but get two or three quotes). The police will tell you that unfortunately it's very simple for a burglar; if they see a house with an alarm they'll target the next property that doesn't have one.

Cut your hedge out front down to a reasonable height. If you live near to the passage add a trelis section to the top of your fence. Makes it very difficult the intending offender to get over.

And if you see anything suspicious pick up that phone and dial 999. The police need your help, as do your neighbours.

how do you know this is the reason Matt? I am interested given we had an attempted break in recently so have been increasing security. cheers

ahhhh i see. lets hope they catch the little f-ers. I'm not happy about being made to feel insecure in my own home (they tried to break in while we were in).

I bought one of those self-fit alarms from Wickes and put it in myself. And I'm a DIY klutz. It was very effective and much cheaper than a commercial installer.

This in my inbox from local Ladder Community Safety Partnership re burglaries:

Note that of the 12 actual burglaries, no fewer than 8 involved open or insecure doors or windows. All of these incidents could therefore easily have been avoided. Please ensure that you take the basic measures of locking all doors and windows. Always engage a mortice or Chubb lock and don’t just rely on a Yale type latch.

Finally, don’t forget that if you have any concerns about the security of your property, or if you would like any advice, the SNT will help with a free crime prevention survey of your home. Harringay Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT) can be contacted on telephone 020 8721 2677 or harringay.snt@met.police.uk.

It seems two things were happening at the same time and were not connected as this email from Glyn Kelly of SNT confirms:

Dear Harringay ward residents
We understand that there was some interest from residents in the Ladder regarding the high visibility presence of officers over the weekend.
Please be reassured that officers were tasked to the area to carry out reassurance and crime prevention patrols specifically targeting burglary.
In addition, for those of you that spotted or heard about the Air Ambulance landing in Finsbury Park on Saturday - this was in regard to a man at an address in Green Lanes N8 that suffered injuries from a fall downstairs. Police attended and assisted with first aid and managing the scene and initial investigation. The man remains in hospital with serious injuries. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.
