Jamaican Blue Mountain heralds the £4 coffee in Crouch End

Cafe and coffee roasters, My Kind of Coffee are determined to put clear blue water between themselves and the other two dozen coffee shops in the area.

So from this weekend MKC will become one of a limited number of places in London to sell Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee.

MKC owner Feyzan Ulker explained to me that the £4 price tag was unavoidable. "I buy the very best coffee, straight from the growers" he said. "It costs me £140 per kilo. But you must try it. You won't find coffee like it anywhere else"

So go have a try and come and let us know what you think.

Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee has developed a reputation that has made it one of the most expensive and sought-after coffees in the world. Over 80% of all Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee is exported to Japan. In addition to its use for brewed coffee, the beans are the flavour base of Tia Maria coffee liqueur.

I find it really funny that people accept that cost for an infusion that tastes like burnt wood and you dont even know if its the real thing or not

I'm a coffee fan so we're on different sides of the fence here. I accept that not everyone agrees with me and I agree that the value we ascribe to things is somtimes out of all proportion to their true worth.

As to knowing if it's the real thing, I guess it's caveat emptor, but I have little doubt that Feyzan's beans will be the real McCoy.
