Don't think the mattress and bed frame message is getting through. Someone took the trouble to drive up my road and dump this outside my house this week at past midnight and I've passed two dumped bed frames this morning on the Ladder.

Hmm, sounds like a lack of clarity - have asked them if they will throw some light.
The leaflet above does say " for items that are reusable or recyclable "
Yes, John, but given the response Anne got, it may be that the definition might merit from some clarification. As far as 'recyclable' is concerned, I'd imagine that would cover things in most conditions. Given that, I don't see what 'Liz's' mattress wouldn't be included, but I'm not clear. So I've asked.
Q: Whether or not the free collection ignores the state of the mattress - and therefore includes mattresses which are not reusable as such? (Seems to me that the mattresses most likely to be dumped are those which are badly stained, smelly, buggy, or torn.)
Q: Whether or not staff who receive a phonecall about mattresses know the new arrangements?
Q: Do members of the public know? Especially the mattress dumpers. (In my observation, some people are still routinely dumping mattresses. See: my Flickr photoset 'M' is for mattresses.)
A: Residents should now be better aware of the full range of items that we collect for free as all households in the borough received a service information leaflet before Christmas and this information was included on that leaflet. As you are aware, we’re addressing the issue of dumping through the Flytip Strategy and the Pilot that Stuart McNamara is leading on and hopefully this will identify the best approaches for flytip prevention in future.
I am sure issue is they do not allow Vans on site
My personal vehicle is a Van -
Most Bed / Furniture Firms these day's will take away old beds furniture
Reminds me years ago when Cleansing Inspector for Haringey
When people used to knock on doors to clear Rubbish
Then Dump it on Next Street
Joys of soft Legislation -
Bob, if your problem is taking a van to the Reuse & Recycling Centre, I can give you some reassurance.
Zena and I recently had work done or our house - including replacement of a rotted old porch. Our builders had a clearly marked trade van. I phoned Waste Management who advised that they could take a photocopy of our recent Council Tax bill to show they were bringing it on behalf of residents. In the end the builders just took the bits of porch and explained which street they were working in. No problem.
The scam you mention still happens. We recently reported this example. A resident paid £15 to two blokes to move rubbish. Fortunately for everyone else, Haringey Enforcement staff traced the person who paid and knocked on their door.
