There's some decent obvious places like Homebase etc, and managed to find the Camden Garden centre which is rather nice...
But there's a few things I've been recommended, or might like to discover, that you'd probably only find in larger places. Anyone got any suggestions? I can drive outside if needs be, but would have to be a large one, or a good size one in North London would be good to know about...

Can't beat this place for sheer size & numbers (and sometimes prices) but you need a car to get there really:

There is also another good nursery on Forty Hill called Clockhouse
www.clockhousenursery.co.uk.
When you have finished there you can pop across the road for a wander around Forty Hall and it's grounds (all free). Then have a cuppa after all that shopping!
That looks interesting and worth investigating.
A big thank you all - that's opened up a lot and am sure I'll work through them all over the next little while... (except maybe Finnegans Nursery, but good luck to your bro!)
Cheers!
