Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Does anyone know when there are any community clean-ups organised in our area (Harringay, not sure if needed, but Tottenham more obviously)? www.riotcleanup.co.uk seems to be down. I know we'll have to wait for the road to open again but I imagine there is lots that could be done at this stage. They've already started in Hackney, Lewisham etc.

There's a Posterous page that is listing places and times here.

Tottenham High Road is still too dangerous to allow people down because of the burnt out buildings and the demolition of the old Co-op on the corner of Lansdowne.

What is clear from the #riotcleanup and #riotwombles hashtags on Twitter that many places have been cleaned up already by council workers.

I posted these two tweets about an hour ago with info:

Aha! @cleantottenham seems to be on the case

RT @cleantottenham just got through to #tottenham 101 operator, if you want to volunteer to help call them u don't have to leave ur details

And a new tweet:

@riotcleanup reporting Tottenham cleanup meeting outside Bruce Grove Station - WEDNESDAY - 8:30 AM

Brilliant!

Should we just show up. Or bring stuff with?

Other cleanups have suggested bringing thick gloves, bin/garden bags and brushes, dustpans, brooms...presume the advice is the same. Looking forward to seeing/ meeting some of you there.

At the Hackney one this morning, they were asking for people to bring brooms and spades to be able to sweep up the glass safely. Lots of people, not nearly enough brooms.
Just got back from the Hackney clean up. As suggested, spades and brooms and dustpans will be required (if it's at all similar) plus thick binbags. It's hard to get burnt car detritus off the road. We used a big metal spike from a garage. I'd suggest thick gloves as rubber ones might not protect from the debris.
Have the council cleaned Wood Green up, or are people needed there?
believe that the council have done a pretty good job at cleaning up WG, according to Twitter
That's good...it's happening so fast it's difficult to keep up!
dont want to sound like an utter facist but if the kids of tottenham want something to do its perhaps time they stopped looting and picked up a dust pan and brush!
i would like to add that its terrible what has occured, the community has been scarred by a minority of thugs and theives and i just wish they were culpable some how.
