Wandering through Clissold Park on Saturday, we saw that the playground (which was always fairly rubbish compared to Finsbury Park) that they were revamping through the winter is finally open. It looks excellent with more stuff for slightly bigger kids, a really big new slide and a huge sandpit. Provided the weather is good, one more place to add to things to do in the summer holidays.

My experience may be way out-of-date, but it's the same as yours, John_D.
I lived in Highbury in the 1970s and Clissold was one of my local parks. Then and since, when we've visited, it seemed a model of a successful park with different and varied groups of users, who had a variety of reasons to visit and criss-cross the space.
For many years, my two "guides" on city parks were Ken Worpole and Jane Jacobs. The latter from the descriptions and ideas in her classic book. Based on these, Clissold Park seemed to have got it about right. With - I'm pleased to say - similar ideas successfully applied in Haringey - recently for example to Markfield Park.
