Outer London boroughs have been asked to come up with ideas to bid for a £50m pot to regenerate town centres.
Mayor Boris Johnson said the funds for regeneration will address "historic neglect of the outer boroughs" and provide a "kickstarting stimulus for high street activity and growth."
Opening the bidding the mayor's office said areas which will not see direct benefits from either the Olympics or Crossrail will get preference.
I can see a certain borough who should be getting very interested in someone's plans for the Council's favourite high street.

Hey Hugh I saw this yesterday and have been looking into how we cna our mitts on some of this cash - I am also keen to support places like Tottenham High Road which is looking desperately sad too.
Am thinking I should contact the council myself for a chat?
I've been taking a keen interest in this funding. I htink it is a great opportunity for Tottenham High Road, Green Lanes and West Green Road in particular. The officers I've spoken to also seem very excited and seem to be assembling the ideas now for the bids. Of the £50m, £10m is for 'quick-win' type projects such as Chirstmas lights and activities which will support trading over the holiday period. The remaining £40m is for more extensive capital projects I hope LBH goes for both lots as the shopping areas really could do with a cash injection. I think we have a sound basis to build on - the physical improvements to Tottenham High Road through the heritage project for example, the Green Lanes Food Festival and the development of the Charter. These all provide hooks for further bids.
Please do post your ideas and I'll keep you posted.
