Time for Nuit Blanche London?
'Nuits blanches', or 'light nights' started in Paris in 1997. They are annual all-night or night-time arts festivals when museums, private and public art galleries, and other cultural institutions open and free of charge, with the centre of the city itself being turned into a de facto art gallery, providing space for art installations, performances (music, film, dance, performance art), themed social gatherings, and other activities.
They're held in an increasing number of cities around the world including Paris, Berlin and Toronto. Here's New York:
They seem to be developing in the UK with events in Leeds and Liverpool, but nothing yet in London. What a pity.

Lots of the musuems do fairly regular late night openings in London - and they generally have music and stuff on as well (or candle lit tours which sound fab!). I've put the link below to the Time Out webpage which covers lots of them.

Just by the way, the original White Nights Festival was started in St Petersburg in 1993 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Nights_Festival) and happens in May, June and July when the nights in Petersburg barely go dark. Makes more sense that Paris, which has as much summer darkness as we do. It would be a good idea for London nonetheless.
