Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Whilst police continue to carry out operational activity to tackle robbery, such as targeted patrols and pro-active investigations to identify and arrest those involved, we ask you to take steps to help keep your valuables safe:

  • In public places, try to keep valuables, such as phones, laptops, neck chains and other jewellery, hidden.
  • Be vigilant about where and when you use your phone, don’t take your phone out as soon as you leave shops, transport hubs and other public areas, in quiet side streets or when you are going about your business and may be distracted.
  • Register the IMEI number of your mobile phone for free on the www.immobilise.com property register.

What's your IMEI number?

If you are unlucky enough to have your phone stolen, then do you need it back again and would you like to help police catch the person responsible?

The thing that makes all the difference is knowing your IMEI number.

This is the unique serial number that is specific to the handset, so if someone takes your phone, and even swaps the SIM card, then the network can lockdown the phone so it cannot be used.

But they can't do that without knowing the IMEI number. It's a bit like the registration number on your car. To find the number all you need do is: press the keys * # 0 6 # on the handset keypad, which will bring up the IMEI number electronically on the phone screen.

Make a note of it. You can create a free personal account on www.immobilise.com to keep a note of the details of your valuables, so that in the event of theft you can provide the details to police and your insurance company.

This will help frustrate thieves, help police catch those involved in stealing or handling stolen goods, and help you get your phone back.

If you are unsure about how to create an immobilise account, contact your local Safer Neighbourhoods Team. They often hold events where they register people on immobilise or may be able to visit you at home to help get you started.

Find out the details of your local Safer Neighbourhoods Team by calling the police non-emergency number 0300 123 1212 or visit www.met.police.uk/teams/haringey.

If you have information about crime, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

In an emergency always dial 999.

I assume you're in broadcast mode here. How dull and un-engaging. I hope you're passing on my sentiments to your superiors HarringaySNT. I wouldn't want them to think there were no repercussions to the rather crass and vandalistic act of deleting Jono and Glyn's profiles.
What do you mean Jono and Glynn have been deleted?? They were such a positive presence on this site. Bring them back!

Glyn has not been deleted, he's still here albeit very quiet now. Does seem a shame that they are hiding behind a generic profile now.

John, you may have to pass those concerns on yourself. You could start with the new Borough Commander, Sandra Looby, perhaps beginning with how this action tallies with  "Our links with the community are our strength in tackling crime and antisocial behaviour and enabling us to bring the perpetrators to account for their actions."

Cheers Liz. I will.

"Our links with the community are our strength in tackling crime and antisocial behaviour and enabling us to bring the perpetrators to account for their actions."

I hope you're passing on my sentiments to your superiors HarringaySNT.

Since long before my appointment to Haringey I have been convinced that harringayonline is a front for many of the criminal, antisocial or would-be revolutionary elements of that area of the Borough. Clearly my first priority must be that my sergeants and officers are not compromised by community links when sooner rather than later I  order them in to move against the ringleaders and other perpetrators. I do of course appreciate the useful connections my officers have made with informants within the Harringayonline underworld over recent years. We have learnt from the mistakes of our counterparts in Cairo, Tunis, Benghazi and Damascus.

SL, Haringey Borough Commander.

One of my uncles was arrested by his brother-in-law.
So who's behind this faceless post then? How depressing! Glyn & Jono, COME BACK!!!!! We need people to relate to, not organisations.

I can see why it has been decided that Glyn and Jono should not appear on the site in person, as it were.

It might be seen to compromise their neutrality towards individuals on here, they might be drawn into arguments and might be subject to personal attacks by discontented members. Already, we have seen one HOLer telling them how to do their job: I don't think they need that.

Oh so you think they've done this because they were getting a hard time?

@John, doubt that's the case, probably comes from higher up. So much for the SNT engaging with the locals. It's been great guys, lovely to have had that contact with you, and I am really sorry it seems to have come to an end due to an order from someone with a posh tie. Who clearly does not understand how much more approachable you are as individuals rather than a faceless SNT logo. What you guys did in engaging with us was exactly the right thing, and what's being done now is not.

Does the faceless logo care to respond, or is this site now just being used as a noticeboard and nothing else?

Sad.

@ Anette.

You missed the impersonal passive " it has been decided " in my post :)

Sorry to hear that but thanks for the reminder - just registered my phone & a few other things on immobiliser.
