Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Haringey spending now online
Councils have a week to ensure that all spending over £500 is published online.
Over 210 councils across the country have put some information online, including Haringey who have published data up to September 2010.
Anyone who wants to spend a few hours going over the books can access Haringey's figures here

Yeah the mini cabs seem a bit high but they're local minicab companies! Hooray!
I really don't think this information should have been released with so little context. I guess context will come after the right wing ranters get their auto filters setup.
£3 million a month for children... how many? etc
£1.2 million of "REDACTED PERSONAL DATA". Is this payments to people and not companies? Some of it comes under "leisure and entertainment". Even investment banks stopped you being able to expense strip clubs years ago.
I see nothing in there from Parking/Ontime. Nothing.
PS @BBU - of course you know that will be a monthly bill. Imagine if all their mini cab journeys came in under the £500 limit...

Once again many thanks, Liz. Cllr Joe Goldberg mentioned this at the Tottenham & Seven Sisters Assembly. But I forgot to ask him where it was on the website. It could really help to pull aside the curtain - for both residents and councillors.
Lucy Craig (a former councillor) and I once used the system where annually, residents have a time-limited few weeks to request an appointment and turn up to be shown specific accounts. The Finance staff were polite and helpful, loaned us a chair and desk, and offered tea. (I suspect they were quite amused.) But it was obviously a pretty ineffective method of achieving routine openness.
So the publication of spending details is very welcome. It should mean we have facts - and less rumour and speculation; less opinion without evidence. These data can help to assemble information; and from information we build knowledge. As Heather Brooke advocates, it's a step towards bureaucracies learning they can and should trust the people.

Yes, the drive to push this data online can only help.
As John has noticed, if people want to compare and contrast with other Boroughs, the communities gov link in the original post takes you to a page that lists links to the other 209 councils who have also published data.
