Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Multi[per]plexed

Wood Green has two multiplexes; the Vue, which has six screens and Cineworld which I think has even more. Both show exactly the same blockbusters at the same time. Would love to be able to see something like Catfish, Of Gods And Men, or London River locally and not have to shlep into town. Is there a reason why our two multiplexes can't/won't screen one indie film a week (and preferably not the same one)?

It's great that Cineworld screens Indian films. So why not Turkish too? Turkish indie cinema is excellent: Head On. The Edge of Heaven. Three Monkeys...

Head On is australian movie - not turkish

The Edge of Heaven I watched - it's very good movie

Head On (Gegen die Wand) also very good. An early Noughties German/Turkish film.

Demand I expect.  They just show what people pay to see, I'm sure if a demand was created they would be willing to supply.

I bet that's what the cinemas will say. But is the demand high enough for both to screen the same things at the same time? On a recent visit to the Vue, there were six people in the audience. Are there six people in Haringey who'd watch sthg other than tired romcoms, lame blockbusters and dreck starring Tom Cruise?

Hi Kit, part of the problem lies in the number of prints available for distribution. Their lower budgets mean indie films do not have the luxury of large print numbers so have to place them strategically to attract the widest possible audience to make money.

A huge fan of all film indie and world myself, I do sympathise with your view. It's such a shame that given we have two multiplexes, the spectrum of films on offer is poor.
