Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Twelfth Night is generally accepted as the time time to get your Xmas deccies down or face a yearful of gremlins and the like.

There's a bit of confusion as to whether 12th night falls on the 5th or 6th, but it seems that the balance of opinion favours the 5th. So tonight's the night folks.

This all leaves Liz in fear and trembling for the consequences on the morrow. So here are her tips on how to be a good Harringaite and dispose of your Christmas tree thoughtfully.

In the meantime here are a couple of links with a little more about Twelfth Night (Wikipedia & BBCh2g2). Did you know that Yuletide is derived from the Viking festival of Jarlstag (Earl's Day)?

Coincidentally the RSC are currently showing Twelfth Night at the Duke of York's Theatre with the fabulous Richard Wilson as Malvolio... http://www.rsc.org.uk/whatson/8742.aspx
Hi Sally
Is the black cat still visiting you?
Jenny

As my two half-Russian nieces would like to have the best of both worlds by having another Christmas on January 7, I think we may have to risk the wrath of gremlins and goblins by keeping our tree up till January 18/19. I suppose since they're only half-Russian we should in future negotiate an (un)orthodox compromise between Julian and Gregorian calendars. This would allow us to have our second Christmas on the Gregorian New Year's Eve, so we could dump our tree on Wightman Road by, say, Jan 11/12 - in time for LBH street cleaners, or whoever, to haul it off somewhere for recycling before Jan 16.

Advice earnestly sought on any aspect of the above.

If i find a Christmas tree on Wightman Road, you can be sure I'll recycle it back through your letterbox, branch by branch, so you can then take it out and leave it by your bin for the green waste people to collect on your normal recycling day.
