Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just noticed that the river, usually clear enough to see the bottom, is completely cloudy/milky.

Run off from recent rains? Silt or pollution?

Have told Thames Water and they will be looking into it...

Anyone seen this before or know of anything that might be causing it?

Just noticed it also. The level seems to be higher than usual too, but that might be an optical illusion due to murkiness. Good call letting Thames Water know.
Earlier today they were clearing weed. Nothing to worry about. It's pretty clear again already.
Thanks John, I should switch to decaffe... everything fine here, situation normal...

I hadn't seen those guys today and I did check with the WB if there was any activity on the river today (they are still checking I guess) but I assume they don't have a "New River Alert" board accessible to all southeast offices.

They seem to be weed clearing again this morning. I guess pulling up the weeds disturbs the silt on the bottom.
Seems they've possibly disturbed a nest - there's a very lost-looking Mandaring duck swimming up and down this morning... being tailed by a gang of Mallards.
i would like to stroll along this river, the only access i can see is by Rowley Grdns on Green lanes, anyone know anywhere else? its pretty sad all the nice things are gated off, the river, railway fields, these are little known spots known by locals, so why cant we use them? we all pay CT and rates. RF is only open till 5 apparently but its always closed when i go by, i went for the bat hunt but couldnt really appreciate the surroundings. will i get in trouble for jumping the gates to the river?
There's a full map of the New River walk available from Thames Water. The river, banks and access is maintained by Thames Water and has nothing to do with Council Tax or Haringey Council, as far as I know. Best to contact them for more info.

There are lots of discussions on HoL about access (or not) to the New River and the various reasons why some sections are closed. Again, Thames Water should know more.
The access point for Harringay/Hornsey is on Wightman Road and takes you as far as Hornsey Station. ( In the rest of Harringay, the NR then runs underground for a bit, emerges in the middle of the Ladder and then there is a short narrow section up to Finsbury Park)

A lot of the New River is open further north and south but the sections through Hackney - Rowley Gardens to the Reservoir- and through Harringay aren't very well looked after and are littered with rubbish.
