Revamped Green Lanes Restaurant granted late licence
Gokyuzu restaurant, next to Hala in Grand Parade has recently doubled in size after occupying the premises of the long vacant Ford's Green Grocers.
Haringey Council have just granted the restaurant a 1.30am alcohol licence for seven days a week, but insisted that drinking outside must stop at 11.30pm.
Chris Upton, landlord of homes next to the restaurant, said: "My tenants and I have suffered greatly due to shouting, arguments and general commercial noise at unacceptable times of the early hours of the morning.
"We feel that the extension of the restaurant and the outdoor portion of the restaurant will only multiply the noise levels we have had to deal with for a number of years."
He added that many of his tenants, who start work at 5am, could be forced to vacate if they are kept awake well into the early hours.
The restaurant's owner Veysel Yavuz has also been asked to erect signs to remind his customers to keep quiet when leaving, and not to serve alcohol to anyone intoxicated. (Mmmm, we can see that one being very effective!)

Yes, it is.
I doubt the advisability of putting tables outside as there is a lot of street furniture between Lemon on one side and the Chemist on the other, including a bus stop. It's going to get rather crowded and people are going to be pushing past diners and diners pushing their chairs out so people with wheelchairs and buggies will have particular difficulties getting past... can't see it ending well, though anything is an improvement on the crisp-packet of a sign up on Google Maps.... though the street lamp might help you read the menu....
...unless of course some of the street furniture has moved since Google Maps!?!

It looks like its going to be a huge improvement on the original restaurant getting away from that kebab canteen look, and with an outside area it will be ahead of the competition on Green Lanes. I do feel sympathy for the tenants though it cant be easy living over a row of late night restaurants. But on a selfish note I'm really looking forward to eating there because of the outside space area and, like most of the Turkish places, they are baby friendly. Its supposed to be open this week-end I was told.

Not sure that is much better, especially for anyone with houses overlooking the back the Parade. Sound travels at night when it's generally quieter, which will awful for anyone around the Gardens on that side. No wonder that landlord is complaining.

yes, I agree. I think noise will be heard half way down the streets at the backs of houses, such as bedrooms.... It's hard to reconcile night life with residential areas and usually the residents lose out (unless they use these places a lot.) Its a problem all over the country in areas where there are bars and restaurants close to homes. So, competition for space on pavements plus noise. Tough to reconcile all of these.

Over time, what is likely to happen, is that young families will be discouraged from living at the Green Lanes side of the Gardens and there will be more shared housing that people will stay in for shorter periods of time there.
I can imagine finding it fun when I was a student but not by the time I was out working (I did shifts early on, getting up around 6am sometimes) and definitely not when I had my kids when in Warwick Gardens. Thankfully there are enough houses between for folks there to be ok though. I think young professionals and folks with families are going to be more pushed back towards the St Anns side over time. Not sure what it'll do to house prices - but then we'd need to check with the Daily Mail to be really sure, but I know they'd not think it a good omen.

Why is the outside usage of this space, which is close to peoples dwellings 11.30pm when the OAE which is not as close 10.30pm, there doesn't seem any consistency?

I think food places more likely to get late licenses and be able to do this?
I do feel sorry for local residents and the extended parts at the back means that noise will travel further down the streets. The multitasking aspects of Green lanes gives it a 'vibe' for sure but there is really great competition now for space on the pavement.
