Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I was bored this morning so made a quick budgetary overview of the council and compared it to the main parties manifestos (perhaps unsurprisingly it seems that conservative and reform don't acutally have one).

turns out there's no money and no one really has a plan to deal with it. To be fair these seem to be deepseated structural problems that no one in local council has any power to change.

It will track and update with the election changes to see a sort of real-time feedback loop of policy implementation.

This is great, thank you. I hope you have more boring mornings.

If things don't change, they'll stay as they are.

I recall reading this article from Haringey Community Press a couple of years ago about a backlog of millions of pounds of uncollected Council tax (>£20m).

Centre right parties never seriously contest local elections in Haringey.

DESPITE the short- and long-term issues with local Labour, the waste, losses and mistakes, issues at national level may well have larger effect with voters.

Younger voters will rightly be concerned about the lack of action on climate change and other voters will be aghast at the latest turmoil surrounding the Mandelson affair.

Was the Russian company on whose Board Peter Mandelson served, Sistema?

If so, and given their business interests, then is it any wonder that Mandelson was blackballed?

The Telegraph reports that Russia targeted Mandelson for decades ~ Kremlin agents closely monitored Labour peer in his trade envoy role and over his entanglement with Jeffry Epstein and that Starmer was told about Mandelson red flags ~ Whitehall sources said PM had already been warned of the risks that led disgraced peer to fail security vetting.

Two Haringey Councillors (alumni Adam Jogee & Alan Strickland) could be seen on TV sitting on the bench behind Keir Starmer while the PM was quizzed about the Mandelson scandal.

One or both of these MPs were foisted on electorates far from Haringey and against the wishes of the local Labour Parties. This is known as being parachuted in.

One has to wonder if the New Labour paratroopers were ordered in by Air Commodore Mandy, or at least if the DC3 pilot over the drop zone was his cousin Captain Mandy?

.

Clive do you still speak for the Lib Dems officially;

unofficially;

as an unaffiliated commentator;

or just a loose cannon?

I ask as a sometime Lib Dem voter.

My one take away from this little experiment is that we need to singlely focus on repairing the void housing and get it back into rent supply stock.

Voids are the one lever that breaks the cycle because it generates revenue, reduces costs on both funds (rent for HRA, TA reduction for General Fund), and improves outcomes for residents simultaneously.

Sadly it looks like we aren't getting it from the manifestos.
