Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Is there already a discussion running regarding the Haringey Draft Local Plan ?

This is the latest one produced by Haringey and it clearly affects Green Lanes and the Arena retail park.

https://haringey.gov.uk/planning-building-control/planning/planning....

(The closing dates for comments is 19th December)

It looks like the plan is to close the Arena Retail park and replace with high density housing (high rise flats?).   T

I know Ian from Ladder Community Safety Partnership has made some comments and shared them with the group by email  and it will be discussed at the meeting on 16th December.

Are there any other discussions going on ?

Ian will submit feedback on behalf of us at LCSP. There were some interesting points raised at the meeting last night:

- losing sainsburys would be a blow to the community
- big new housing developments planned for Rowley Gardens (just north of the Arena)
- pressure on transport from new developments viz: Harringay (Great Northern line), Harringay Green Lanes and Manor house Tube (Pic line)
- Piccadilly new trains will uplift capacity on tube but until the signalling is upgraded there's a 40% capacity deficit waiting to be unlocked
- even more traffic from delivery drivers etc in the future
- lack of social housing provision. 400 kids in Haringey are in temporary accommodation. This is not healthy.

- Harringay's primary schools are oversubscribed but ones closest to the ward have plenty of places. A lack of kids is a big demographic threat in London. Families are not moving into new developments or not able to afford to have kids ?!

Cllr Zena will ask the officer running the plan to present at LCSP arranged meeting . That even like all LSCP is open to all!

Consultation closes on Friday 19th. Please get contributing via Haringey's website.

As I understand it, the fact that the local plan may show that a site is to be marked as a possible residential development does not mean that this will necessarily happen because the initiative lies with the site owner.  Personally, I would approve if Jewsons wanted to close their Wightman Road depot and build flats because it would mean the virtual elimination of heavy good vehicles from Wightman Road.  I don't know whether Jewsons want to do this and I doubt whether the changed local plan would push them to do so.

The thinking is that the owner of the arena site may have leased parcels of land until 2030 as the previous local plan had that site earmarked for housing. But this is speculation until confirmed.

The Sainsburys just off Hornsey High St has housing above. Evidently the parking isn't great (not noticed myself).
