Hello
We're finalising or choices for a primary school for our son, and would just welcome any perspectives from current parents on South Harringay, North Harringay and West Green?
There's stuff we like about all three. And know that all the schools are good. And that families will all have different experiences. But we've only heard the perspective of the schools themselves - so would welcome any other perspectives.
Feel free to DM me if you don't want to share publicly!
Thank you!
(Also, should there be a parents/families category on the forum? I wasn't sure where this should go!)

I would say you need to think about your child first. There's no right or wrong school, but rather the right or wrong school for your child.
Some children may fit better in larger schools, others might prefer smaller ones. Some children may need better scaffolding with their educational or linguistic needs, others might benefit from a larger degree of independence.
Some children might already be too independent and require more structure and discipline which might falter in certain settings, with priorities focused on achievement.
Our primary school choice ended up being based on convenience as catchment areas limit choice and the differences between available schools were not that significant. Come secondary school, the differences accentuate.
Thanks Ruben. And I agree. Unfortunately we've missed our chance to see South Harringay before the deadline as we were dealing with some medical issues before Christmas and their next January tour is scheduled after the deadline frustratingly. I feel a bit like we can't go too wrong having seen West Green and North Harringay, both of which felt they'd suit our son in different ways. Just wondering what we might have seen at South Harringay that might inform the order of preference.
I am a bit out of the game now (child grown up and in secondary). South Harringay was split in 2 schools, with KS1 and KS2 each having their own head and what felt like a higher degree of independence.
The head in KS1 was an exceptional teacher from NHP (first-hand experience with our son). You can't go wrong either way.
Leadership obviously plays the strongest role on things and a change of head can completely steer the school into a different direction, which is why my personal rapport would have little bearing nowadays.
Although South Harringay is technically two schools they are effectively run as one with one head and SLT in charge of both.
The thing that struck me when looking round South Harringay was how much space it had, big classrooms plus lots of spare rooms for group work, music, etc. This was in comparison to Belmont though which is obviously a different style of building.
From what I've seen and heard all of the local schools are decent so it is worth giving weight to less child-focused stuff like breakfast/after-school club and the logistics of pickup and drop-off.
I know that South Harringay struggles to offer enough places for breakfast/after-school to everyone who wants it which then makes it difficult for some in terms of working around that.
Our daughter is at north Harringay primary and she’s really loving it. It’s very close to where we live abcs although it wasn’t our first choice actually I’m really pleased with how she’s settled in and the school overall. Lovely teachers and I’m not sure if we just got lucky but seems like such a lovely year group- even the teacher noted how great and kind they are with each other. After school club offering is great, we both work full time and have cover every day when needed. The summer camp they started this year as a test was fantastic, it was 2 weeks over summer holidays and our daughter had the best time even asking us not to pick up early. We only have experience of reception and year one not so far so good , daughter is really happy.
