Roof replacement
Happy new year all. We lost some slates in the wind over new year, from the highest point on our house (of course!). This has been fixed but the roofer who came out (Aaron from ACG roofing) took some video recordings that very clearly show the poor state of repair of our roof, which hasn't been touched in 25 years (loose slates, crumbling parapets and masonry, ridge covers that move etc). He's quoted us for it, but I'm keen to get some more quotes so am following up with a few of the roofers who have been recommended here over the last few years. I'm also interested in what people have paid for a full roof refurb recently - if anyone willing to share do please feel free to message me.

If you are spending a lot in a major job do check out the company in companies house there is a lot of sharp practice where companies dissolve e every few years and restart with a similar name. Punters think it’s a long established company but it’s not and the new company has no obligations re guarantees from the old one. I speak from bitter experience. Use a company that has been established at least 5 years and not consistently flipped.

I HIGHLY recommend Andrew Wiffen 079 7711 2424 who has a company with reviews online. His company was recommended to me by a local estate agent.

I used L jeffery Roofing and can’t recommend them highly enough.
they are extremely knowledgeable and reliable and they deal with building control too (which is required for a replacement roof)

I used SNK Roofing in 2023, to insulate and replace my entire roof. They weren't the cheapest but their work was excellent. I was kept me informed of progress and I found the whole experience stress free. They are a Which? Recommended company led by Gary:

We used Lee four times from October 2023 to more recently, November 2024, as the issue kept happening. Last time we had water down our bedroom was last week. So much that now our newly painted walls are ruined and they never offered to pay for it, despite being an issue due to a job not done correctly.
we are now looking into an alternative company as the experience has not being great. Maybe we have been unlucky but we will look around now and won’t recommend it anymore.
