The drop-in session on Wednesday gives the opportunity to ask questions of Thames Water e.g. why does it need to be closed for 13 months (probably a good practical reason?).
Location: The Coal House Café 226 Lordship Road, Stoke Newington N16 5HQ
Date: 27 November 2024
Time: 3pm – 7:00pm
Thanks for posting but Woodberry Wetlands is not closing. Half the circuit path will be closed, that's all. "We'll be closing the reservoir walkway between the Coal House Cafe and the New River Path between January 2025 and February 2026. Don't worry - the Coal House Cafe will remain open while we work".
[And the rest of the walkway - about half the total perimeter circuit - will remain open from what I read].
If you look at the bottom photograph you can see the path marked in yellow which will be closed, this comprises about 90% of the Wetland path, all that will be left open is the small section from the cafe to the entrance gate. 90% of the Wetlands will be closed to the public, so it is legitimate to state that the Wetlands is closing.
It's actually most of the reservoir circuit that wil be shut - the West side is outside of the reserve itself. and if the current state of the New Rievr works is anything to go by, it won't be pretty...
It's regular haunt of mine, for it's peaceful and beautiful landscape - I will miss it.
Visitor numbers will doubtless be affected, so i hope the Coal House is getting some financial support.
That misleading headline (Wetlands closing for 13 months) will already have deterred visitors - it's not all closed.
Counterproductive if you wish people to continue to visit even with a restricted periphery.
Or perhaps you don't wish for any more visitors since the full experience isn't available for a year.
So. Bin. It. And drive down visitor numbers. They'll thank you, I expect.....
