Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A few weeks ago on one of those rare sunny days of this glum summer of 2024, I managed to  sweet-talk the security guy at the gates of Chettle Court. We were then lucky enough to bump into a very friendly and chatty lady who happened to have a top floor flat on the west side of the block, looking over Harringay. She very kindly offered to take us up to her level  Sadly, since it was an unplanned spur of the moment visit, I only had by iPhone with me, but what a great view!

A big thank you to the lady who hosted us. She was one of Chettle Court's first residents. It was fascinating to hear how when she'd moved in, the environment was, shall we say challenging. Things quickly improved however and for quite some time now it's been a wonderful place to live. As we walked along the fourth floor walkway, heads would pop out of doors and banter and chatter would ensue. It felt very much like a warm community from the 1950s.

To help you get your bearings, the big white house n the centre of the bottom photo (also in the top one) is at the top of Hewitt Road, on the south side.

Nice photos!

The building of Chettle Court robbed most of us of a similar view from the footpath that used to run from the end of Mountview Road to Harringay (West) station.
