Kentish Town and Stroud Green kebab restaurant E Mono actually took its name not from its owners but from a long-departed previous business on the same site, when the creation of their first shop, in Kentish Town Road, revealed the beautiful hand-painted original signage — possibly 30s or 50s — that had been concealed behind the much newer Pepsi-branded fascia of the (rather good) greasy spoon they took over. Alas, their current iteration uses the E Mono logo but is a back-lit plastic panel; I hope the original signwriting is still preserved on the shopfront behind, to be revealed again — just as H Caplin is here — by yet another refurb sometime in the future.
I remember that shop as a glaziers in my time....1950-70.
