The following report was recently posted on our website and twitter feed:
BGORUG News, August 2023
BGORUG has discussed the disruption caused by late-running freight trains with TfL and Arriva Rail London, who raise these concerns regularly with freight operators. They also share the Group's aspiration for a crossover at Blackhorse Road to enable trains from either direction to reverse there during disruptions or engineering works. It is at the midpoint of the line, and a major interchange with the Victoria Line. A case has been prepared for NR and/or DfT to consider.
The Group has expressed its concern to C2C about poor signage throughout Barking station,
particularly to the solitary lift which is tucked away out of sight at the end of Platform 1. A ramped subway links it to other platforms, but the lack of signage means that most passengers are unaware of the fact - or even that there is a lift. The current refurbishment of the station should have included provision of a new footbridge at the entrance with lifts to all platforms, but this much-needed enhancement was sadly not included in the final scheme.
Junction Road station closed in 1943 as a wartime economy measure. The Group has urged Islington Council to reinstate it into the Borough's transport policy plan. As well as a valuable cross-town link, it would provide a useful new interchange with Tufnell Park on the Northern Line.

Thats OK Hugh.
I should add that there are alterations to services this weekend, some trains are retimed to run 3-minures earlier on Saturday and on Sunday the service is only Gospel Oak - South Tottenham until around 12:30. There are also a few cancellations in the afternoon and evening.
Finally, it may be of interest that on the same day that Junction Road station closed, Hornsey Road station also closed.
I seem to have omitted to say that there is an advance notice on both our website and twitter feed of planned alterations to services as far ahead as 22 September.
Many thanks Glenn for this information. I've noticed more delays with freight trains causing delays on our line. Recently a freight train broke down had to go the long way round via H&I and tubes.
I never knew about the Junction Road station- it would be good to have that back.
And how long will the Barking station building work take? It's very poor there's now no toilet provision. not everyone will know that there are loos in the shopping centre on the main street.
I hope they keep the ticket offices though I know the aim is to get rid of them all. Last time I was at Barking there were some temp ticket offices.
Me too, 've been on one demo against ticket office closures and am also thinking about the RMT one on 31st except they don't tell us what time.
Good to be part of the campaign to keep them open. Can't stand this push to force everyone to do everything online with no human contact. We need those ticket offices and the people working in them.
100%!
