Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I hope all you who have the vote in Harringay will remember tonight ( and certainly other nights to come ) and at the next election vote out the incompetent shower responsible for the introduction of the LTN.

My weekly 5-minute journey from Wightman Road to Green Lanes took 45 minutes, including  30 minutes to go the length of Hampden Road. Yes, I know that there was a burst water main. But in happier times traffic would have been distributed across the roads now blocked off and not confined to Green Lanes. Yes, I know that I could have taken a bus to sit in the same traffic jam as I did this evening but in any case there aren't any buses between my house and the bottom of Effingham Road.

I understand the concerns of those residents living in the LTN who hope that the pollution in their streets will be reduced but don't the residents of Green Lanes, Turnpike Lane and Wightman Road breathe ? don't their children have lungs ?. Where did the Council think the LTN traffic would go ?

And please don't suggest to this disabled person that I could have cycled.  I couldn't.

Mobility scooter next time?

It may come to that.

I may get one myself. They have their uses for sure!

If you are regularly driving 650 metres a mobility scooter does sound like a good option to explore.  I think it would be cheaper and would mean you could go on the pavement, which would mean traffic jams would not affect you. Nor would the one-way system.

(Traffic increases to fill the available roads, so LTNs reduce traffic, and extra roads increase traffic.)

This is true. But it's not all about me. One ex car driver is not going to make a great difference to the increased pollution resulting from lines of vehicles stuck in the overflow from the LTN, nor is it going to help emergency vehicles get through to fires or heart attacks.

I’m finding the lime bikes a compete blessing. If you are competent cyclist but a bit lazy, you won’t ever need to use the tube again. Sign up for lime prime and they are free every 30 minute journey.

You can trial a free £4 ride using this code. This gives me a free £4 referral journey as well but I’m on practically a free deal with lime prime anyway.

Hand on heart they have revolutionised my working week.

Just spotted this on Facebook; new sewage repairs Muswell Hill junction / park / priory road - 4 weeks.

What! Didn't they just do this work? And what about the other times over the past year Thames Water have dug up the same road in the same area! Thames Water really need to organise their work better, they are a bloody nuisance. And don't get me started when utility companies barrier off a road, install temp traffic lights and don't start any work there until a few days later. I would argue to hand out massive fines but we would just end up paying these fines in our bills. You can't win and these utility companies know it. Isn't there a monopoly issue with TW being the only water supply/management company in London?

Different work - the earlier work revealed more serious problems and two additional broken sewers. This time they are not having temp traffic lights but using the existing traffic lights but some manoeuvres won't be allowed. These are;

1. No right turn from Park Road on to Priory Road
2. No straight across movement from Alexandra Palace Way into Park Road
3. No right turn from Alexandra Palace Way into Muswell Hill
4. No right turn from Priory Road into Alexandra Palace Way

After the sewers though there will need to be more works to try and solve the repeated flooding to the shops at the top of Park Road.

Is this how Lime Prime works? I thought it gave you a free unlock (with a 30 minute window) but you were still paying the per minute charge. £8.99 for unlimited 30 minute rides per month seems very cheap compared to their normal prices.

I thought that  but its actually a giving  me free 30 minutes every time I jump on a bike. I was amazed at first.

Interesting, thanks. I've been tempted but the price seemed very high. Will have to try it out and see what happens.
