Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
What kind of work/jobs did young men have in the late 1930s before the war in the Wood Green area?
Does anyone know what kind of jobs young men had before the 2nd world war around 1938/39? Apart from working in ironmongers or shops. Did they work in the Bus garage in the High Road opposite the WG Tube? I know the school leaving age was fourteen.

My father left school at 14 and was apprenticed as a dental technician to a German dentist. He lost his job when the dentist was interned for the duration of the war. He went on to work for Haley’s, hand-sewing golf bags until he signed up to the navy in1942.
His older brother who was congenitally deaf became a carpenter and furniture maker. His younger brother (also deaf) also went in to carpentry.

Not exactly Wood Green but in nearby Tottenham there was Harry Lebus, Gestetner and Maynards.
My mother worked for all of them!
