Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

An article this week by Jonathan Glancey calls for the saving of these glimpses into the past painted on the sides of buildings and publicises an online archive of over 600 examples including this one from Hewitt Road

A little more about this and other painted Hovis ads including the one in Stroud Green can be found here

Have always admired that one on the way down Hewitt Rd.
Great post Liz, I have always loved these old signs.

In fact you reminded me that I took a photo of this 'Ghost sign' when I was valuing an empty flat on Green Lanes. The shot was taken from the top rear window, looking down onto Seymour Road.

It was a lovely crisp December morning as you can see.

So impatient... Just realised I had a great big Castles watermark across it, so I had to find the original and re upload. Using HOL responsibly see!
That's a great photo. You know I'd never noticed there was one in Seymour Road.
Aha... there you go! This one is a Builder and Decorators firm, very difficult to make out, it also has some sort of reference to Mountview at the very top.

Don't think I'd noticed this photo before.

Sadly, I've just checked this on Street View and see that some idiot has painted over it!!

SV history shows that it was gone by 2012. So you probably only just caught it Steve.

Bit of a tight deadline, but has anyone got the appetite for contributing to this https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2023/oct/27/historic-england-g...
