Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Visitors Parking Permits - no 2021 to scratch
Hello! So I have lots of visitors permits due to this years pandemic and no one coming to visit us.. I have only noticed that there is no 2021 year to scratch off- will Haringey council give people some leeway as surely no one has been able to use many visitors permits In 2020?
I was thinking I could just clearly write the year 2021 on the tickets?
Is there someone from the council that could advise? I have been trying to contact Haringey council about this but have not heard back.

"Being looked at".
This will be a great relief to people listening anxiously to the news about what doctors are now calling a "pandemic in a pandemic". And I try not to underestimate the stress on the Chief Executive and her team of Directors and Joe and his team as they look at this challenging problem between now and Tuesday.
So can I please offer my help with a few tips. The scan below is what's called a Visitor Parking Permit. It may not be the same as they issue where you happen to live.
My first tip: Do not be afraid of the complex and technical small print. No need to hire a consultant - at least not yet.
Next tip: Cover over the Logo. No need to waste time lost in admiration while contemplating the elegant and fascinating jiggly logo. Yes it wasted cost £86.000 but don't be scared of numbers. And anyway what's a few quid when other people are paying? So no need to be distracted.
Now, take a deep breath. Stay calm, Skip quickly past all the boxes and numbers further down the permit. Ignore them and they will go away. The only number you need to focus on is near the bottom left corner. It's 2020.
The term 20/20 is used in the USA to describe someone with perfect vision. Is there such a thing as 2021 vision? Apparently there is. Who knew?
I hope this is helpful. Try not to stand too close to others during your little trip to the Post Office.

I also received an email about your vouchers. They were sent to you on December 15 I think. The fact that they haven't reached you yet makes the point about this process. The mail is apparently getting worse and I was told officers were meeting to assess all this.
I will update you as I will be writing back.

Dear Zena, thank you for your efforts in this query. I will wait to go to post office to exchange my permits (value over £100) and see the outcome of this thread. It really is good news that they are now exchangeable, but yes, going to the post office for this does deem as non essential for me right now.

Just to clarify, you can't exchange them at the post office. You have to send them to Haringey by registered mail. Haringey then exchange and send them back to you. But the post is now incredibly slow, so officially snail mail. That is what has frustrated Ian who has posted on this site. Simply enabling people to carry on using their expired vouchers for a period, as I suggest, would avoid all of this, and keep people out of unnecessary queues.
I am hoping such a system can be put together very quickly.

Well, It's Tuesday. Have they "looked into it" long enough and reached a sensible decision? Anyone heard anything from the lookers-into and big-cheese deciders?
On TV yesterday a politicians' choir including Boris Johnson, Keir Starmer & Sadiq Khan chorused "STAY AT HOME" in almost unison. While Chris Whitty Chief Medical Officer for England lecturned that unnecessary contacts can cost lives.
Personally I will not be strolling with date-expired visitor permits to join the friendly throng outside our local Post Office. And I guess every day which passes while Haringey Head Honchos stumble towards a solution is a little larger potential tragedy.

No news on this yet, despite our efforts and suggestions. I did get a holding reply from the Director of the Service, but nothing further.
I will chase, of course.

Hugh, most of the people who we know personally are using common sense, trying to be super careful and avoid unnecessary contacts.
What else can we do? By which I don't simply mean getting Haringey's so-called Leaders to make a sensible decision about the Visitor permits. But to embed this common sense into all their decisions and actions?

***UPDATE*** 15 Jan
I have received an email from the Head of Highways and Parking confirming there will be a change in policy along the lines I proposed in my previous emails. I am told this should be posted on the Haringey website today, after enforcement officers have been briefed. In summary, 2020 vouchers will be honoured up to June!
The public health dimension irrefutable!!
So, a good outcome! Well done to all of us!
