News report states they are currently not legal
But notice a growing number in the Borough
My issue is that many I see do not use lights or wear reflective clothing
As reports state they should not be used on Foot ways and have a licence and insurance
As they run quite have seen and herd a few people shouting and hitting their Horns. Only a matter of time before people are injured and killed
Yes aware they are handy , when legal, and green

I quite agree - recently it's been happening every evening at the end of our street. It's highly dangerous and very unpleasant. I tried reporting it in the summer several times, but did not even get an acknowledgement and I haven't seen any patrolling police on Green Lanes for months.

And Bounds Green Road, It's a lot more empty in the evenings and I've witnessed some pretty dangerous driving. I have bought this up at NW meetings before and the police do act but it's more a game of Wackamole. Not sure what happened to the 'red beast' though.

Noticed several more today. Noticed ones today that have Front and back Lights

Did ask on Haringey Police Facebook , why as deemed not legal. Not see a reply yet
Re speeders Green Lanes. Worth posting on Police Facebook page. Even better if you give make and registration. As aware most patrol vehicles now have APR systems that detects number plates
But my trips along Green lanes at anytime , you are lucky to get out of low gear/s . Especially with the growing number of Traffic Lights
Seen some interesting video's of Driving Offenders incidents from other police forces. Where drivers have had some interesting crashes, while trying to avoid being caught by Police

They seem to to be putting new cameras in, eg cnr Station Rd/High Rd and camera and speed signs. Offenders like to 'floor it' up Jolly Butchers Hill.

"why as deemed not legal"....because the law is quite clear about when and where it is legal to ride one of these and for very good reasons to do with safety both for the public and for the riders. Please Google this subject and you will see why in most cases they are completely illegal. No driving licence, no ID on scooter, no insurance in case of accident, damage, injury or death either to an innocent pedestrian, bike rider, driver or bystander. Plus some people behave very foolishly like riding one in the aisles of Teco 7 sisters - if he had injured a shopper Tesco would have been liable for massive damages.

There's nothing specifically stating electric scooters (or skateboards, or mono-wheels) are illegal. However they're deemed a motor vehicle which means they would require licensing for both vehicle and driver to use legally.
Unlike e-bikes which are assisted rather than powered, therefore legal.

Ride an escooter where there is not a local authority approved hire scheme - i.e. ride a scooter that you have purchased and own then you risk a penalty of £300-00 plus 6 points on your driving licence - sounds illegal to me.

You didn't read my post properly. There is nothing *specific* about electric scooters being illegal. The law just says that motor vehicles require licensing.
It's pretty understandable to not think of these as motor vehicles in the same vein as cars or motorbikes. However given the prominence of them no one should be able to get away with claiming ignorance now.

Interesting Point. Do Electric powered two wheel bikes need to have a Licence and Insurance ?
