Liz, in the past I've tried several times - and failed - to photo mackerel skies. Your shot shows exactly what it means and the beauty.
Reminding me, by the way, of why fish scales is not the only comparison. At least according to Wikipedia, this may be known in different languages as "buttermilk sky", "fleecy sky" and "cobbled sky".
