Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A car exploded on corner of Stanhope Gdns/ Green lanes about 3.50pm. Really hope none hurt but didn't see ambulance,  just firemen. Think it was electric fault with car. Since then no internet or landline. BT say will be fixed by Weds. That's not good for all us working at home. Anyone else having this problem?

Just got off the phone to BT. They said the new open reach update is everything to be fixed by this Wednesday

So many mixed messages so taking this info with a pinch of salt for now

Can everyone here please keep phoning them too, more people the better

If they need to replace the box, re-do the optical fibre inputs & reconnect a couple of hundred landlines by Wednesday then they better start doing something!

I think we keep being fobbed off with review dates that OpenReach give to the Internet Service Providers, which are not the same as dates when the work will be completed.

The worry is that people who have spoken to a BT person who then digs in to OpenReach a bit deeper then come back with 17th November.

I agree with you michaelw. So many different dates have been given. And last Weds. to my face I was told it would be done either that day or the next.... which I couldn't believe.

I'm thinking it will be Nov. 17th now. Just hope my mini-hub arrives soon and hope that everyone affected is finding ways to work still. We should all get some form of compensation. I know this outage wasn't the fault of BT or any other provider, but this delay in fixing it has to accounted for.

If anyone is really stuck and needs somewhere to work my dining table is available. I'm working from home too at the moment, so this is an offer that only applies if you don't need to be on the phone all day and are ok being in the same room with someone else working there. DM me if interested

That's really kind of you Cat A!

I've been helped a lot by friends who have invited me to their places to use the wi fi and be able to work. I'm promised a mini- hub now. Let's see if/when it arrives...

Just saw an engineer working on the box opposite the broken one.

Signs of life at least, just hope it doesn't rain

Some good news for a change

- David Lammy is now chasing OpenReach on this and he (or his office) spoke to them at quite a senior level yesterday pm

- There are workers on-site today & I could see that they have removed the old box & have a new one to replace it.

Yep, lots of activity there now, the new box is in place and some cables etc in there. Maybe they will get it done by Thursday?

Just spoke to the workers and they said that they hoped they would get the service working by Friday.

They also confirmed that the problem last week was UK Power Networks (another privatised monopoly provider) not turning up to disconnect the electricity until sometime on Friday.

Thanks for the latest update michaelw. UK Power Networks sound rubbish. I've now got a mini hub so am connected at home, such a relief. Didn't really want to have to change my contract to Halo but thought it best when Nov. 17th was bandied about. At least it's a back up in case of any future calamities. The past 10 days have been stressful. Hope other people affected have been finding ways to work.

Maybe we should have called UK Power Networks? As on their website it says nobody in my postcode (N4 XXX) has contacted them about a power cut.

I've just called them up up and they said no one has been in contact with them regarding this, especially not Open Reach. There is no record of Open Reach contacting them on their system whatsoever unless it has been filed wrong. The lady on the phone said if anyone has an INCB number from Open Reach it may help in finding some sort of report. Does anyone have one?

It's not a power cut - it was that UK Power Networks needed to cut the main power cable to the box so that the box could be removed.

As I've discovered in my house, if you want to get anything done on the main supply cable then you have to get UK Power Networks to do it - and it can be difficult to get an appointment....
