Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I have been pondering the idea of organising some more social events as a chance to get together with friends and neighbours and just be more friendly with the community in general! These would run as well as the HoL drinks.

What do people think?

Ideas I have come up with so far are

Bring a £5 bottle of wine and tapas night
Tea and cakes on a Sunday afternoon
Winter picnic for families and kids

Any others?

Happy to organise a programme of things to start in the New Year.

Hi Judith,
I think this sounds like a great idea. I would hate to think of you going to the trouble of organising an event and people not showing up (the book club sort of went downhill after intial enthusiam) though, so perhaps we could start with an event and use the Pledge bank idea e.g. I will organise a tea and cakes afternoon but only if at least 10 HOLers agree to come. If you don't get 10 RSVPs on an event posting, then it doesn't run. If it does work, then we keep 'em coming...
Great idea.
We'll come!
Great idea Judith!
Count me in. Will have to think of a few ideas too. Love the wine night.
Understand what Liz is saying about organising and no one comes.
Well we shall give it a go - I'm not too worried about the people not turning up thing - as we can make the first few bring/share type events! Maybe £5 bottles of wine for the New Year when we are feeling the Christmas pinch and need something to cheer ourselves up on the long winter nights. :) - though there was also talk of candlelight carols just before Christmas if anyone fancies that?

In a shameless plug, I am hosting a 'Jamie at Home' night at my house next Wed at 8pm (Nov 25th) - this is a chance to have a glass of wine or a cup of tea and piece of cake! Browse the catalogue which is crammed full of lovely homeware and christmas gifts, do a food quiz and if you so fancy (no obligation) get in some Christmas shopping in a relaxed informal environment. Let me know if anyone is interested. (see the events calender for more information)
Hope it goes well on the 25th - am currently overseas and wont be back til early Dec.
Keep us posted on any other social events.
Judith, there's another message of support for this on our facebook page:

Frances Walsh commented on your note "Social Events":

"yes to indoor kid-friendly daytime stuff, please!"
Well how about we start with a Christmas based thing. I was thinking of hosting an open house on the afternoon of Sunday 20th December - Nothing formal - just drop by for a glass of mulled beverage and a mince pie! Everyone welcome. I shall create a proper event for it.
That date is out for me already, sorry. But keep me posted on other events, maybe after the hectic period of Christmas.
