Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

There appears to have been a nasty road accident outside The Beaconsfield. Looks like a pedestrian may have been hit by a bus.

Green Lanes is closed all around the area.

Does anyone know what happened? (traffic stationary and backing-up with people on diversion along Endymion Road).

I didn't see the accident but have just walked past the aftermath. It made for a grim sight and one can only think the worst. I believe the road was closed from six or earlier and again all traffic diverted up by the park.

This is of course a depressingly common occurrence on Green Lanes. It seems ironic that - as a recent poster pointed out - Green Lanes has an abundance of traffic lights and crossings and yet people on occasions - I cannot say yet what happened by the Beaconsfield, of course - still cross at places where it is not safe. Can anything be done?
Latest Council thinking is to remove safety railings to reinforce the concept of " shared space ". I'm not sure this is a good idea
Nothing to add except that it was shut as early as 5.30. My guess is same as Paulie's (pedestrian and bus), from the possessions strewn on the road. Very sad.
Air ambulance arrived sometime after 4 and didn't rush away :-(
I asked when I went by on my bike about 8.15pm, and the policeman I talked to would only say it was an accident and no cyclist was involved. Horrible spider-web cracks on the front windscreen of the bus. I do hope whoever was hit has not been badly hurt.
A friend who was attempting to turn left from Endymion into Green Lanes, was spoken to by a police officer at 16:00; my friend was told there'd been an accident. At 19:00 it was cordoned off when I walked to Sainsburys. There seemed to be material in front of the bus, strewn on the road.
Thanks for letting me know. Sounds tragic. I sincerely hope it wasn't fatal.
Did anyone get a handle on what happened? It looked a bit like someone had stepped out and got hit by the bus, I am guessing it was from Lothair Road but the bus did not seem to have travelled too far in stopping, so it does not look like it was at speed.
Of course it's a good idea John D - removing safety railings and caging pedestrians in, has nothing to with an accident like this..
Why should Wood Green High Road have a 20mph limit and Green Lanes, Harringay a 30 mph limit?
Fully agree, Paul. A 20mphZone from south of Endymion to Bounds Green Road would make a lot of sense.
I doubt if a bus could exceed 20 mph at 3.50 on a Friday on that stretch. The cause of this tragic accident must lie elsewhere.

And whatever the cause, don't forget that the bus driver must be suffering too.
