Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi all

We recently moved into a new place on Fairfax Road. Over the last month we've swept up a bag of leaves from the garden and now have 1 large refuse sack that we'd usually take to the recycling centre but this is difficult under current circumstances! If anyone nearby has space in their green bin we'd be very grateful if we can use it as a one-off! I can send pics if that helps.

Thanks :)

Hi Beth, I’ve sent you a connection request.

Thanks for your message Julie :)

Great - thanks Liz!

Just want to remind folks that before we ever had a green waste service people with gardens in this area for the 110 years since it was widely Developed have been managing their garden waste by composting it.  These days you can buy ‘hot composters’ which are incredible in their capacity to biodegrade vegetation at 35-40 degreesC.  Compost tumblers or even just an old pile in the corner work well.  Keep those sacks of leaves (maybe under a bench or bush) and you will have fantastic leaf mould in a short space of time. Any longish straight sticks make plant supports or beanpoles.  Even piles of sticks or logs left under a hedge will biodegrade attracting wildlife and interest. You really don’t necessarily have to expend carbon emissions moving it anywhere, keep it on site reuse it or compost it!

I compost a lot of my garden waste. So I do not need to use the usual garden waste collection. Also I do not have a huge front garden and the bins would just take up most of it with my front windows looking directly onto these very unsightly things.

It isn't always practical or possible to devote the space needed to compost all of it. I appreciate the special green waste collection service the council has put in place. For once they seem to have been responsive to our needs.

There is room in my bin this week for one sack of leaves.
