I'll be avoiding all the local shops on Green Lanes after my experience today. No clue about social distancing or understanding what 2 meters apart means.
I was in Yasir Halim and had staff brush past me. Customers way too close with no proper markings separating people. It's like the news has just washed over them.
Walking down Green Lanes felt like I was taking my life in my hands (even more than usual) with people not making way for others. The staff of the grocery stores standing in the middle of the street. It's shocking and I'll be sticking to Sainsbury's and other stores where they actually have some sort of orderly system.

Nope. Just someone who thinks we should do more to recognise the strain that small businesses are under and not casually smear them with spurious allegations on social media.
Yavuzlar has been doing one in one out for weeks, even before the main shutdown was announced.
Did I suggest this was a scientific study James. I wasn't aware Harringay Online was a scientific journal where in order to post you had to prove your facts by carrying out laboratory tests. I thought it was a local forum where we could make observations about the neighbourhood - my mistake sorry!
Hi KP. I'm sorry if my comment wasn't clear and you felt it was critical of you.
I was actually making the point that your post was not supposed to reflect some thoroughgoing survey but was merely you reporting your personal experience. In other words, it was empirical evidence.
As it happens, your experience chimes with my own experiences last week of small grocers on Green Lanes. I haven't been out there for more than a week, so hopefully most (all?) shops on GL have raised their game vis-a-vis introducing controls on social distancing.
I agree. No one should feel deterred from reporting their personal experiences as accurately and honestly as they can.
Thanks for clarifying James! I also hope that they have all raised their game considerably since the weekend as it was quite shocking. Stay safe!
I don't feel the need to go into all the shops to make a "sweeping judgement" as you put it. I walked along enough of them to see what was going on. And enough to see that it wasn't the safe distance!!!
You have no idea how many or which shops I went into so stop making assumptions. I am sorry if my experience happens to tarnish your view of your precious local shops who need to be defended at all costs - even if they are putting customers at risk. And yes my view is subjective because it's my view - you don't have to share it - but I am allowed to express it!
Personally, I feel extremely blessed to live somewhere where there is such a cornucopia of produce.
Every non-chain shop I've been to has been doing their best. The shops are smaller so of course it is more difficult but I think we're very lucky to have this amazing resource.
From what I've seen, some shops seem excessively busy and also have people (often staff) standing outside blocking the pavement but others seem ok. It's generally easy enough to see in and make your choice.
Realistically though the recommended social distancing just isn't possible on somewhere like Green Lanes with the narrow pavements.
In regard of the local shops' response, it has thankfully improved a fair bit now, though it's taken far too long for the message to be acted on in any way in some specific cases, which was - apart from the obvious problems in not doing so - particularly unfair on the other local shops who were attempting better practice earlier. But better late than never.
