can anyone tell me if this would work on here or perhaps there is a better place to mention this?
I think there might be fruit going to waste on peoples trees, either because people not able to pick it or got no time or whatever.
it would be good for a group of people to pick it and then give it to neighbours.
Any body know about this already happening?

I'm sure you are right. There was this post here recently about exchanging fruit but I'm sure there is some that goes to waste, especially now the apple season is on its way.
As an aside, we didn't think we had any fruit in our garden til we discovered that the little yellow plums that fall from a neighbours tree and annoy the hell out of us every spring/summer are actually edible and make a delicious jam (they are called cherry plums by the way).

This is a great idea, I can see some delicious-looking apples in a neighbouring garden and also watched many raspberries going to waste on the allotment near Ivatt Way last year :(

I also found this project called Public Fruit Jam. Wonder if one of the sustainable Haringey groups would be interested in such projects?

You might be interested in the following post that I picked up from one of the local Yahoo Groups:
Anne Gray who runs the N17/N15 organic food cooperative is looking for some local apples to add to her market sale stall.
So do you have an apple tree? If so Anne would be interested in hearing from you as you can help boost the supply of local fruit and vegetables.
The next sales are on: 12, 25 and 26 Sept. It sells from Broadwater Farm Community Centre on those days between 12.30 and 3.

This seems to be widespread problem. We recently visited friends in the Scottish Borders and heard about orchards along the Clyde Valley where much of the fruit is unpicked and simply rots.
Neighbourhood fruit and veg swaps are great. As are small local schemes to get fresh produce into local shops. (Our nearest greengrocer buys stuff from allotment holders.)
There's also a lot going on in Haringey and in neighbouring boroughs such as Waltham Forest. It's one topic where the word 'sustainable' actually means something and isn't an empty label. Many voluntary sector groups are involved in developing interesting new schemes.
With the Council giving its support, too. Can I suggest that interested HoL members contact Adam Parvez the Environmental Resources Officer. ( adam.parvez@haringey.gov.uk ). He'll be able to put you in touch with the initiatives now underway.

Hi Fran,
To my knowledge there is no active coordintation of the harvesting of fruit within the borough but this is something that I know the council and Sustainable Haringey are looking into. The council is developing a sustainable food strategy and this would most certainly be part of the range of initiatives that would be supported as part of this. If you have any more suggestions or ideas please feel free to contact me.
