Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Steam train at Harringay station, Sun 17 Nov about 0925, first time since August

Weather forecast dry as of Thursday, passing time family-friendly.

The locomotive is apple-green Mayflower, hauling a tour to York from Ealing Broadway (not Kings Cross as originally planned).   The tour uses the Gospel Oak- Barking line before switching to the East Coast Main Line just before Harringay, so it will appear at low speed on the single-track curve by the south end of Harringay station platform 2 (north-bound).

Well thank you - it's nice to make a difference judging by the number of tall and small people there, and everything worked, the train was on time, weather was good and the arriving passenger train didn't hide more than the last carriage of the excursion.

And a souvenir if anyone missed taking a picture:

Amazing pic! And that’s actually us to the left of the photo! My wife, me, our 2.5 year old and 8 week old!

Our 2.5 year old is completely obsessed with trains so I think in the years to come he’ll be down your end of the platform with the camera!

We actually went to go down closer to your end but didn’t want to spoil your photo!

Well that seems to have gone down well.

Here's the programme for the rest of the year. Details will all be posted in the Steam Train Watchers group which all can join, just sign up using the "+ Join Harringay Steam Train Watchers" button near the top of the screen, and for the manageable-time pair on Sat/Sun 7/8 Dec a post in the main forum too.

Sat 30 Nov but rather earlier at 0750, again via the Harringay Curve, engine is the streamlined 'Union of South Africa', soon to be retired from service. Details here.

For these below, the best view is likely to be from platform 1 (towards Finsbury Park).

Sat 7 Dec about 0905, details here.  Engine is 'Duchess of Sutherland' in its striking red livery.

Sun 8 Dec about 1020, details here. Engine is the new-build 'Tornado'.

Sat 14 Dec but in twilight about 0730, a second outing for Tornado.

Thanks Gordon - have joined now!

A heads up about Sat 30 Nov.

Yesterday 'Union of South Africa' was failed while on its way to London for a Slough - Shrewsbury tour on Saturday. It is currently stuck at Rugby and the failed axlebox may be too damaged to allow a quick repair by Sat 30th. Axleboxes sometimes overheat, but not often to the point where the lubricating oil catches fire (see picture).

Steamwatchers on Sat 30 Nov - steam locomotive has failed, trip will be diesel hauled instead.  The bearing failure I referred to in the heads-up last Thursday can't be fixed in time. The return trip will be steam-hauled - but passes Harringay around 2205.
