Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This is a tree outside our house in the Gardens. I assumed it was some kind of birch, but someone suggested it was diseased or damaged.

An overseas friend who obviously doesn't know Harringay very well suggested we must have deer in the neighbourhood. Any ideas what it is?

Could it be a paper birch or river birch?

Andy Newman of GRA would know.

River birch (betulus nigra)

Certainly looks right.

In Cuba they have a tree with a red bright bark that peels all over nicknamed the 'tourist tree'.
