Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

It is very welcome that they have finally got this line up & running. However the enormous cost & time overruns is a scandal. Years were taken up on this project without a service for many weeks & months. I don't think it is acceptable.

We no longer seem to be able to carry out any engineering projects. The Woolwich Ferry was taken out of service for about six months while the boats were replaced with new.

Since the service ( service ? ) was restored 3 months late there have been almost daily suspensions because of ( like today ) " ongoing technical problems "

We can't even keep the gents' toilet at Chestnuts Park open for more than a couple of days at a time before it blocks .

Because in the bad old days of state run railways, officials chose contractors on their record and contract experience, which meant there were fewer overruns.  These days, bids are made on 100% faith in the building programme running to plan and are usually accepted because they are cheaper.

At the end of the day, due to overruns, the costs rise and it becomes clear that the more expensive bids, were in fact cheaper and no doubt more reliable.

Companies that don't play chicken with the figures, lose out on gaining contracts.

Today Saturday 10th August 2019 I went to South Tottenham sration to find it closed and a staff member said it would be closed all week ostensibly for "engineering works." There didn't seem to be any alternative buses. This cessation of service had not been advertised before today. This is a railway from hell & those managers involved in the failed construction programme should be prosecuted for fraud. As for David Lammy MP he says nothing. It doesn't appear to bother him that he can't get to Hampstead Heath as he lives there. David Lammy is an MP out of touch with the perils of living in Tottenham.

Sorry William but this weekend’s closure has been advertised for some time.

Engineering works aren’t all week, and replacement buses are doing the usual split of Gospel Oak-Seven Sisters (for South Tottenham) and Walthamstow Central-Barking, with passengers directed to the Victoria Line for travel between the two (and Blackhorse Road).

The electrification works were indeed delayed but that was made a whole lot worse by the heavily delayed new trains - electric freight has been running on the line for quite some time.

Well he did raise the matter in Parliament

I concede the closure may have been advertised - it was nor very conspicuous though, as I do use the train (when it is running) quite a lot. But leaving that aside what I want to know why does it take almost 3 years to fix this?  I think a criminal probe should be instituted, with the main question were any deadlines  written into the original scheme as approved by TFL & if not why not? Were there any financial penalties for just not delivering? Why could Mussollini make the trains run on time but Mayor Khan can't?  Who has benefited from this  breakdown. Why do we keep paying people when they can't get the bus out of the garage. Has Caroline Pidgeon said anything about this? This is a total disgrace for which David Lammy is responsible.

There are 12 stops on the Gospel Oak to Barking line of which two (South Tottenham and Harringay Green Lanes) are in David Lammy’s constituency.  He is an MP, not a member of the London Assembly, so how he can held responsible for something managed by TfL is beyond me.  Finally I think I’d put up with transport delays rather than living in a fascist state.

I simply want to live in a state where things are run efficiently for the benefit of society as a whole. It is immaterial to me who actually runs the railways! In any case I am unclear how you define fascist.   It seems to me contemporary fascists are best described merely as those who disagree with the Lib Dems on any particular point or cultural Marxism.

Oh dear, dear me.

The idea that Mussolini Made the Italian trains run on time is a myth. As dictator he made damn sure that any train he was on would be given priority and arrive on time but the general travelling public bumbled along as usual.

Il Duce wasn't very popular with the ordinary Italians either

Bombardier are paying for a month’s free travel on the line as a penalty, something which TfL/the GLA arranged. A fairly hefty financial penalty.

You may well have a point with some of your views, William, but your apparent insistence on finding a conspiracy undermines your view somewhat. No one gained from the breakdown.

Strange that you leap to point the finger at Lammy. I’ve no connection with him, but I get the impression you would blame him if a tornado decimated Tottenham without warning,

Yes I probably would. Lammy was appointed as Blair's Gauleiter & in my view is responsible for everything which happens in Tottenham. Incidentally I have been to the TFL web site & cannot see any reference to this weekend's closure or indeed keeping  it closed this coming week.
