Hi,
There seems to be a real mix of opinions on plumber Neil Protheroe. Here's ours: we used Neil for a new bathroom fit recently and I would NOT recommend him at all for this kind of job. We purchased a range of mid-range products, Duravit toilet, sink and vanity, and wanted these to be installed with attention to detail. The actual plumbing work was barely passable - Neil had to come back for a leak in the newly installed sink pipes. Pipework outlet sort of line up but not really.
For the sink waste pipe, he didn't take into account the requirements for the new vanity unit. It was all resolved passably, although I head to refrain him from sawing a hole into the vanity drawers so the waste pipe would fit - I'm just glad I was there when he was about to get the saw out... The unit was initially installed slightly wonky, which he blamed on the wall, but could then be sorted out somehow. There were various other issues with his work.
Overall, I would strongly advise against using Neil if you're after a reliable plumber, fitter, communicator. He seems to lack the patience for reading instructions, has no eye for detail, no foresight - plus he disappeared on us halfway through the job without any communication (he reemerged, but in hindsight I wish we'd got someone else on the job instead.)

The same happened to me. My friends highly recommended a builder when I did the bathroom in my previous property. It was horrendous - he laid the insulation on the hallway floor upside down and then when he did the bathroom there were lots of niggles including a leaking shower screen. When I asked him to fix this he threw my keys at me and left. Sadly he had already had my money and I had to get someone else to finish the floor and fix the niggles. It has put me off doing any work in my current home for 10 years! I hope it turned out okay for you in the end.
Not used NP but after some years reading for and against posts, I'd summarise that it seems the quick one-time 'get-you-out-of-jail' fix is usually a success, any protracted job isn't.
yes, i would go with that, we used him in an emergency and it was fine but i;ve never thought of him as someone i'd get to put in new bathroom stuff etc.
I'd agree with that - he helped me out in an emergency (and never asked me for a reccomendation to put on here , by the way) and he came at the drop of a hat and then had to return with some extra parts a few hours later. And I would use him again in an emergency, but not for a long protracted job that required a firm commitment for a number of days in a row.
Great knight in shining armour for emergency repair jobs though. And a nice guy to boot.
