Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I'm a bit confused about how the food / garden waste is collected

I assumed that both go into the same truck, all mixed together, but the council website says not to put food scraps into the garden waste https://www.haringey.gov.uk/environment-and-waste/refuse-and-recycl...

I was thinking I could streamline the Tuesday night bin admin (adbin?!), but it seems my cunning idea might be flawed.

I think they both end up going through the same anaerobic composting process but sticking food waste in your large recycling bin is going to result in a very smelly and maggotty green wheelie.  The smaller food recycling bun is a LOT easier to wash out if there’s any leakage.

Thanks, good point.

I'll stick with the multibin set up tonight.

Some stuff on FB about this - they say that garden waste is composted but food waste has different treatment as it contains (can contain) meat etc. See Tidy up Tottenham on FB.

It definitely needs to be separated. Garden waste is for what you would put in a garden compost bin i.e. peelings and garden waste. Food recycling includes meat, cooked food, etc.
