Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Living in the Borough for 70 years

Never noticed it to the other week when traffic stopped in Lordship lane and I was pictured in the Box.  And received a £130 Fine

Going past this junction most times lights change there are many vehicles in the Box

Accept many are Buses , what a great earner for Haringey.

Even thought it is operated from a Office in Lancing Near Brighton

I wonder where All the Fine Money goes to ?

Its a great earner yes, however if you anticipated the road you wouldn't be in the box and block the road for other users.

At least now in future, you wont block the road again - Lesson learnt

As for where the money goes- who knows!

When I entered the Box after lights turned Green, Traffic got blocked in Lordship Lane.                 Which stopped me Exiting Box . On checking picture and driving through since then.

I did not obstruct Traffic , down High Road. And vehicles in front of me which was stationary stopped others from entering Lordship Lane

Not bad Only getting fine once in forty years of driving through Box

Yellow box junctions can be tricky, I think the law says something along the lines of not being supposed to enter a YBJ unless your exit is clear.

A proportion of it ends up with Haringey, not the Met police, once third-party operating costs are deducted - and of course it's £65 if it's paid within 14 days of being issued.

Plenty of discussions on here too.

A tricky local issue is the box at Green Lanes/Endymion Rd, driving northbound.

There are two lanes of traffic, and in either lane it is possible to be stranded in the box by a vehicle accelerating hard and swapping lanes to take the one-vehicle space in front of you (well, me) thus stranding you in the box.

This happened to me during the Wightman Road closure when Green Lanes was much more glacial than it usually is so some drivers were, hmm, over-competitive. Sighed and paid up, with a note to self to use Endymion Rd left turn as a getout if it happens again.

How someone hasn't been very badly hurt because of that 2-lane layout (and the way it continues to the next set for the retail park) is beyond me. Cars come flying down the hill in lane 2 doing well over the prescribed 20mph speed limit, spot the queue to turn right and come flying in to the left hand lane whether there's a gap or not.

You probably had a strong argument that you didn't contravene the law here - the regulation states that you must not *enter* the box junction when your exit isn't clear. From what you said, when you entered it, it was, and became "not clear" after your decision point. I had a nose around and per (an admittedly old) discussion on SABRE (what they don't know about roads isn't worth knowing), there's a legal precedent that you could have argued it.

... But it probably ends up in court and there comes a point when, like you say, you just sigh and pay up.

Yup, disputing it on that ground did occur to me at the time and some would have argued it, on principle or for fun. For me, I had other things to do with the time and money (appeal and you lose and it's £130). One box junction in 40 years - I can live with that.

Did appeal.

Never got a reply.

But got a Charge Certificate increase Fine

Which does advise me appeal Rejected.  So paid today

Would be interesting to find out How much is Raised from this Box Junction                         As drive through it often and see many vehicles stuck in Box as exit is blocked by Traffic    Including Public Transport
