Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Have just come home to find that some estate agents' goon has nailed a massive to let sign to the gatepost of my house in a clod-hoppered attempt to advertise that the house next door to ours is to let.

My blood is boiling right now but with my wife's tempering influence i toned down the email i sent to them to what you can read below.

I understand that estate agents signs are a hot button issue in harringay, so what's my best bet when it comes to ensuring i get this thing removed and get a suitably snivelling apology - and a new f&*^&ng gatepost?

------

In their efforts to advertise the fact that x xxxxx xxxxx is for rent, your underlings have nailed a massive to let board on my gatepost at x xxxxx xxxxx - an act of feckless vandalism which has caused me significant distress and upset my neighbours who were panicking that we were about to let our house out.

I would strongly advise that you send someone round to remove it as soon as possible and a swift apology would be appreciated.

Take it down yourself. Nail it to their entrance.
As angry as you - and John D - may be, don't lower your standards.

Though I'd suggest taking a photo and posting it on Hol as a polite reminder.
And perhaps ask for compensation for the damage to your gate; and consider my suggestion here.
FYI

I sent the following to Planning enforcement on 24th June and am still awaiting a reply - holidays maybe.

" Dear Planning Enforcement.

A number of Estate Agent boards erected by Paul Simon on Wightman Road do not conform to your regulations:-

" No advertisement may be displayed indicating that the land or premises has been sold or let, unless an additional advertisement or a statement that a sale or let has been agreed or is subject to contract."

and

" The advertisement must be removed within fourteen days after completion of a sale or the grant of tenancy."

A survey on Wightman Road on 1st June 2009 noted twelve Paul Simon boards indicating either "Sold " or "Let" that did not indicate that " a sale or let has been agreed or is subject to contract."
A further survey on 23 June noted that the offending boards were still in place over three weeks after the first survey and thus are in contravention of "must be removed within fourteen days after completion of a sale or the grant of tenancy."

The offending boards are located as follows -

Alroy Road No
5 (Two boards on same premises )

Wightman Road nos

11, 26A, 175, 200A, 228, 276, 311, 347

230 (has correct wording, "Sold, subject to contract" , but has been displayed for more than three weeks )

A board indicating "let " has been erected at the corner of Denmark Road and Wightman Road with no indication of the premises to which it refers and it has been there for more than three weeks.

I should be grateful if you could take action against Paul Simon to have these boards removed since they constitute visual pollution and infringe your regulations quoted above. "

Also copied to Ian Blake as it's now 5 weeks since they were initially noted. I'm sure, if I had the energy, I could find many more on the rungs of the Ladder. These boards serve no purpose other than to advertise Paul Simon's services.
I have just received the following :-

" Thank you for your e-mail regarding Estate Agent boards.

I did receive your original e-mail on the 24th June which I forwarded to a colleague in Trading Standards as this is not a planning enforcement issue.

You can contact Tendy Lindsay (Trading Standards Officer) on 020 8489 5160 "

I don't quite see why it's not a planing issue since the rules governing the estate agents' boards are set out on the Planning Enforcement page of the Harringay Website but - hey ho :-)
ian.blake@haringey.gov.uk came back from the Haringey Postmaster as "user unknown"
I'm told that Ian Blake is no longer listed on the Haringey email sytem. (I don't know, but he may have left.)
I got a hasty email apology this morning and a promise that it would be gone by tomorrow.

Dare them to let me down.

Make my day, punks...
