Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Cllr Ishmael Osamor "admitted three charges of possessing drugs with intent to supply and a fourth charge of possession in a hearing at Bournemouth Crown Court last Friday."

I had no idea that this had being going on behind the scenes. His arrest was known before the selection process, but it seems Mum (Kate Osamor MP) managed to keep mum.

He remains a Councillor and keeps his job in mum's office in the Commons.

I couldn't find any mention in the Morning Star or The Canary, so please make do with this link.

***He finally decided to resign as a Haringey councillor at tonight's Labour Group meeting (Tues 30th)***

Wow. Councillors have been known to stand down over much more minor things. Takes a particularly cynical person to do what he did and stand in office.

I agree with you Kotkas.  He, West Green Ward Branch and the Labour Group need to seriously consider his position and do it now.

Don't be ridiculous. I've been thinking that there should be a drug dealer representing West Green Ward for years. Perhaps he can help us deal with the Earl of Seven Sisters.

Why don't all our elected Councillors and MPs provide this thoughtful service to their electorates? We did vote for them after all and they will expect us to continue doing so.

He has quite a constitution if all that was for personal use. Maybe it was a bulk buy to keep him sorted till the next elections. I'm not sure he'll have had much momentum after all the ketamin tho.

Perhaps it was to get him through all those council meetings.

But.... hoovering up Cocaine and Bollie didnt stop Cameron and co getting elected i suppose. Mind you they were'nt forced to admit it in court.

Glad to see politics isnt changing that much.

He wasnt convicted of dealing.. they believed his fig leaf of personal use. Even in my heyday i wasnt capable of consuming all that at a festival.. but maybe i was just a light weight.

He'll have big Boris and his mates beating a path to his door for a little wiffwaff and a sniffter, once hes back at work. He'll be the 'go to man' at the commons and has really just raised his business profile.. county lines are over, too much publicity - bigger profits between the lines of the commons benches or council chamber.

He did not suggest personal use. His story was that he and his 'friends' were to use them.

He had intent to supply (to his friends). The fact that prosecutors believed he didn't intend to do this for financial gain is why he wasn't sent down. For the prosecutors to be so trusting, I imagine he was quite helpful in identifying exactly where and from whom he purchased the drugs.

Good job someone is reading more carefully than me, i wouldnt want the 'labour party' (Ha Ha Ha - this is the thread that just keeps giving).

Anyway, i wouldnt want the labour party to issue me an injuction. look what they did to John.

Shame the News Quiz has finished its run, i'm sure they'd have made hay with this.

I'm much more concerned that he was selected as a Labour candidate while this was hanging over him than he and his friends know how to party. The drugs I can forgive, the lying, I cannot.

I wonder if any of the other councillors are his customers?

Brings a new perspective to 'Council meeting' no wonder they always have so many behind closed doors.

Was probably getting it from one of his diplomat chums.  More than paper in them briefcases

As far as I'm able to find out, nobody in the local Labour Party was aware of the Ishmael Osamor case coming to court before the news this week. That includes the Labour Group Chief Whip and Cllr Osamor's family.

When I applied and reapplied to become a council candidate it was my responsibility to disclose any such information. I haven't seen the forms which candidates had to sign to stand in 2018 but I assume the same requirement.
There are other principles and rules which Cllr Osamor appears to have breached. The Nolan Principles of Public Life apply to councillors as well as MPs.
