Popped into my local newsagent today, the one next to Barclays bank, and saw it being refurbished with no sign of the usual proprietor(s) who has been there ever since I moved here. I asked the young woman on the counter if it had changed hands and she said yes, they've sold up and gone.
You get used to the faces and the friendly little chat in the local shops and these newsagents were just a stable part of the community for me. It was a family business I believe - I remember when a brother died years back. I had no idea they were selling up and feel sad I didn't get to say thanks for everything and goodbye. Perhaps it was high time for them to retire, they worked very hard.
I'll miss them. Hope the new owners are friendly!

Good question - they were always the nearest MyHermes store between here and FP.
If not, Doddle in Finsbury Park definitely do them. CollectPlus (which is generally an easier and more customer friendly service IME) also operates from the newsagent/supermarket across the road near to Brouhaha. Worth bearing in mind for future?
There's Morrisons, so I might just go there just in case.
Ah that is a shame. Lovely people at Dave’s. They’ll be missed.
Yes, I feel very sad they've gone but they did a lot for us local people over the years. I hope they enjoy a long and happy retirement (unless they're setting up another shop somewhere! Wish I could have thanked them and said goodbye.
