Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Roof Terrace Harringay

Hi,

We would like to convert the flat roof next to our loft (converted) into a roof terrace. Anybody has an legal roof terrace or knows anyone who has it and what the steps are in terms of planning permission? Also, how likely is it to get the project approved? We are on the 1st floor so our roof is quite high and doesn't really overview the neighbours garden which I know is the key aspect to get it rejected.

I've love to hear how you get on with this, as it sounds similar to what I wish to apply for (I'm planning to start to process towards the beginning of next year).

This will be help which is an approved planning application of a roof garden on the ladder which got approved.

It's not just the main concern, it's the only concern. As long as you cannot sit on your balcony and observe your neighbours in their gardens you should be good to go.

Hi Veronica. I've lived on the ladder for a few years now and have ummed and ahhed about seeking permission for a terrace. I see that occasionally it is granted but not easily. 

I'm really curious as to how you got on with yours. I'm looking for all the encouragement I can get that it is worth a try before starting.

I'm sorry to hear it Rich. Was being viewed from the street the reason for the hard 'no'?

It really is a shame. If it is done properly I don't see why a terrace cannot be 'in keeping' with the character of a property, and you see them all over London - Haringey included. I don't get why the ladder seems to be especially strict.
