Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This is getting a joke. Haringey clean it up and then a few days it’s back this time blocking the road. This has got worse since Haringey started charging for bulky rubbish. Maybe it’s time they think again and install cameras in these dark areas which surely is cheaper than cleaning it up every few days.

Just an update. I have just got through to Haringey and spoke to environmental and safety as the bike has still not been removed. Apparently I was told the following..things like the dumped bike, cars, flytipping rubbish like bricks and such that are not normal household rubbish does have to come through Haringey. Haringey then send an enforcement officer who then contacts Veolia to clear. Veolia cannot just clear this type of rubbish without this process so Veolia was right. I think they should remove this and allow Veolia to clear without needing this process as it takes time and wastes money.

There's another aspect to this. If Veolia clear dumping this also removes possible evidence.

Rapid removal of dumped rubbish rewards the dumpers and litterers.

Plainly one answer is to enlarge the enforcement team and enable a fast response co-ordinated with Veolia.

Which would mean at the very least redeploying and possibly retraining staff who do other less useful tasks. Although given the continuing Government cuts - now driving some local councils near to going bust - even this may not work.

Although to a point I agree with your comments I cannot agree and continuously blaming the government cuts. Haringey is labour and have funds to waste on changing the Haringey logo, they have funds to pay councillor expenses, they have funds to waste in a hotel which they will top up the charge. They have funds to waste on this HGV project which no one wants and wasted so much money with enquiry after enquiry.  What’s wrong is the mismanagement of the council and all of them need to be sacked.

I partly agree. But many of the top wastrels were sacked - sort of. Many of those key councillors, responsible for everything you list and more, even sacked themselves. Though not without some of them pathetically whingeing about how they deserved to be re-selected without having to have a proper selection vote.

But across the country, people sounding the alarm about Government funding include many senior councillors from Tory councils. Unfortunately the cuts are all too real for everyone.
